dokspot is supporting device manufacturers to reach profitability, regulatory, and sustainability targets through the implementation of eIFU.
We use the data you entered, along with our assumptions in the background to calculate the estimated CO2-equivalent emissions based on publicly available emissions data.
For the electronic IFU, we use the average data size of 1.3 MB per IFU. All users of the product are assumed to access the IFU once. We multiply this by the emissions factors given by the Sustainable Web Design Model (accessed 2025).
For the paper IFU, we assume an average raw paper grammage of 50 g/m². Paper production and printing are included in the calculation. Upstream transport (e.g., from raw paper supplier to the printer) and production discards are not included or considered. Find more details in this study “Carbon footprint of package leaflets. Pharm. Ind.” (Dobers, K., Gerbsch, N., Mandry, T., & Preut, A. (2023)).
Transport emissions are based on Mobitool; the distances are estimates based on the geographical centres of each region.
We do not collect any personal or location data. The values entered get stored in our database if the calculation button is clicked.

The data provided is an estimation that can be used as a baseline for the sustainability improvements of your products if electronic IFU replaces paper IFU. Do not use the estimation for any legal or regulatory purpose. For a more customized calculation tailored to your specific situation, please contact talk@dokspot.com.
dokspot GmbH commissioned Milani, the leading Swiss agency for innovation and product design, specialising in eco-design and design for the circular economy, to develop the calculation model.
Disclaimer: Calculations and results are estimations. Sustainability experts developed the calculation formula based on assumptions, publicly available sustainability models, and eIFU data provided by dokspot GmbH (see FAQ for more details).
